A short list of things I refuse to put on my delicate, precious face: dirt, human vomit, lotion that costs less than $5 and, oh yes, laxatives. That last one is a beauty recommendation straight from the glossy lips of Hrush (HA-roosh) Achemyan, Kylie Jenner‘s longtime makeup artist.
In a February interview with ELLE, Achemyan revealed she uses the drugstore laxative Milk Of Magnesia as a primer for her celebrity clients when they’re set to walk red carpets and sit under the heat of lights. According to the makeup artist, the product forms “something like a plastic layer over the face, preventing the layers of face paint from melting away.
Interestingly, Hrush isn’t the only internet-era woman using Milk Of Magnesia as skincare. A quick Google search turns up dozens of investigations into the odd beauty trick. Many use it as a hack for oily skin, applyinga thin layer as a face mask.
Still, it’s probably not a good idea to apply the sticky coat to your face regularly. In the long run, it can totally dry out your skin or lead to acne. If there’s one thing a Kardashian absolutely cannot have, it’s a pimple.
The moral of the story here is sometimes it’s worth paying more for a product specifically designed to prime your face — I swear by a tube of Urban Decay’s Complexion Primer. It’s $31, but a single bottle will last you for months.
